Question 1

What is agarwood?

Accepted Answer

Agarwood is the resinous heartwood of Aquilaria trees. When the tree is wounded it seals the breach with a dark, fragrant resin; years pass and what accumulates inside the trunk is one of the most valued aromatic materials in the world.

Question 2

What is the difference between agarwood and oud?

Accepted Answer

They come from the same material. Agarwood usually refers to the wood itself — chips, beads, raw pieces — while oud usually refers to the essential oil distilled from that resin.

Question 3

What is Kinam (Kyara)?

Accepted Answer

Kinam (奇楠, sometimes written Kyara) is the softest, rarest and most aromatic grade of agarwood.

Question 4

How do I know the agarwood is real?

Accepted Answer

Dao Yun grows its own Aquilaria on a single estate in Southern China, grades the wood at the estate drying house, weighs and logs every batch, and finishes products in Hong Kong. Because everything comes from one estate, we can answer which tree the wood came from.

Question 5

Is agarwood legal to import into my country?

Accepted Answer

Aquilaria trees are listed on CITES Appendix II, so international trade is regulated rather than prohibited. Export normally requires a CITES export permit, and some destinations additionally require an import permit.

Question 6

Do you ship internationally?

Accepted Answer

Yes — Dao Yun ships worldwide from Hong Kong. Choose your destination at checkout and the shipping fee is added to your card payment before you pay; import duties, taxes and customs fees are set by the destination country and are the responsibility of the recipient.

Question 7

How much is shipping?

Accepted Answer

The shipping fee is set by destination and charged at checkout: Hong Kong ¥30, Macao, China ¥45, Mainland China ¥50, Taiwan, China ¥60, Asia ¥90 and the rest of the world ¥180 (CNY, per parcel). Import duties and taxes are payable separately by the recipient.

Question 8

Will I pay customs duties or import taxes?

Accepted Answer

Possibly. Import duties and taxes are set by the destination country, collected from the recipient, and outside our control. We declare contents accurately on every shipment.

Question 9

How do I care for agarwood beads?

Accepted Answer

Keep beads away from perfume, detergent and direct sun, and store them sealed when not worn. Never soak them or clean them with chemicals.

Question 10

How do I burn agarwood incense properly?

Accepted Answer

Warm rather than burn: place a thin sliver on a glass or electric warmer at 80–180°C. Never let it smoke black.

Question 11

Do you offer wholesale or export?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Write to wholesale@daoyun.hk with your market, volumes and the product categories you are interested in. CITES export documentation is prepared for wholesale shipments.
